The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) – Gender-Affirming Harm Reduction Supply Distribution Needs Assessment

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) – Gender-Affirming Harm Reduction Supply Distribution

With strong evidence-informed foundations, the BCCDC recognizes that harm reduction is an integral component of the care continuum that goes much further than supply distribution. With that in mind, the purpose of this needs assessment is specific to supply distribution as it pertains to the needs of Trans, Two Spirit and Gender Diverse people who use/have used injectable Hormone Replacement Therapies (HRT), inclusive of those who use substances more generally.

Our goal with this project is to work alongside Trans, Two spirit, and Gender Diverse people to create relevant resources based on their self-identified needs and lived experiences. The questions in this survey were informed by an initial focus group and are designed to gather feedback from persons with lived experience with the following objectives in mind:

  • Encourage harm reduction sites across the province to distribute relevant supplies for gender affirming injectable hormone replacement therapy.
  • Develop education resources for clients, by clients, on safe practices for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Create education materials for staff on HRT-related supplies in order to empower our Harm Reduction teams to be an informed resource for our clients.
  • Resources for staff on creating safer, more welcoming spaces for trans people, such as “Language Matters” education.
  • Create additional resources if needed, as determined by clients during community engagement.

All completed surveys will be eligible to enter a draw to win a $25 gift card (opt-in option at the end of the survey).
